New Delhi (ABC Live India): Entire India responded overwhelming to the call given by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to observe 22/03/2020 as Janta Curfew day.

On 22/03/2020 the Majority of Indians not only remained in their home from 7 am to 9 pm but also applauded for Corona Fighters as appealed by Mr. Modi on 19/03/2020.

After success of Janta Curfew, Mr. Modi in wrote Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi thanked the people for expressing gratitude towards those who are at the forefront of the battle against Coronavirus. In a series of tweets, PM wrote “The country thanked each person who led the fight against the Coronavirus. Many thanks to the countrymen.”

On 22/03/2020,according Indian Council for Medical Research A total of 18,127 samples from 17,237 individuals have been tested for SARS-CoV2 as on 22nd March 2020 6:00 PM IST.

A total of 396 individuals have been confirmed positive among suspected cases and contacts of known positive cases.

On 18/03/2020 Indian government constituted a high-level technical committee of Public Health Experts for COVID-19 is established under the Chairmanship of Dr Vinod Paul, Member, Niti Aayog, to guide the prevention and control activities in the country.

On 19/03/2020, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Nation and appealed to observe 22/03/2020 as Janta Curfew day.

On 20/03/2020 ICMRissued a revised Strategy of COVID19 testing in India which says, “WHO declared an outbreak of febrile respiratory illness of unknown etiology in December 2019 from Wuhan, Hubei province of China. Since its emergence, the disease rapidly spread to neighboring provinces of China as well as to 182 other countries. Infection is spread through droplets of an infected patient generated by coughing and sneezing or through prolonged contact with infected patients.

Currently, India has witnessed cases of COVID19 mostly related to travel and local transmission from imported cases to their immediate contacts. Community transmission of the disease has not been documented till now. Once community transmission is documented, the above testing strategy will undergo changes to evolve into stage appropriate testing strategy.

On 21/03/2020, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the leaders of Pharma industry via video conferencing.

Prime Minister said that pharma producers and distributors have a crucial role to play in combating the challenge of COVID-19. He said that not only does the industry need to ensure maintenance of supply lines of essential medicines, medical kits and equipments, but at the same time should try to come up with new and innovative solutions.

On 22/03/2020 after Janta Curfew, the Prime Minister added that the event marked the beginning of the nation’s victory in a long battle against the COVID-19 menace. He urged the people to bind themselves to the principle of social distancing with the same resolve and restraint.

In the evening of 22/03/2020. The Cabinet secretary of India wrote a letter to all Chief Secretaries of the states for taking further proactive steps on huge public response   to Janta Curfew.

By Late Night of 22/03/2020 the following State Governments have taken actions and announced lock downs in their states, Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Karnataka, Telangana, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, West Bengal, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Puducherry and Uttarakhand are in lockdown till 31/03/2020.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today lamented that people are not taking the lockdown in the country seriously.

In a tweet Shri Modi appealed to the people to save their family members and themselves by strictly adhering to the directions being given by the State and Central Governments.

He requested the State Governments to make people adhere to the lockdown.
