GlaxoSmithKline Loses Price Battle for Crocin Advanced Tablet

New Delhi (ABC Live): GlaxoSmithKline has lost its case for price of Crocin Advanced tablet for instant pain killer. The Ceiling price for Paracetamol 500 mg tablet has been notified at Ninty four (94)paise per Tablet vide in June 2013 under the Drugs (Prices control) Order, 2013 (DPCO, 2013).

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, the Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers Shri Nihal Chand said a private pharmacy firm selling the drug in the name Advanced Crocin had applied for exemption from the applicability of notified ceiling price under para 32 (iii) of DPCO, 2013. After due examination, the claim of the company for grant of exemption was rejected by the NPPA. Accordingly, NPPA has raised a demand for recovery of the overcharged amount by this company, for the period of non-compliance of the notified ceiling price. The company has deposited about Rs.54 crore in this regard.
