Quetta (ABC Live): A 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred near Pakistani border with Afghanistan early Wednesday, killing at least 40people.

Quetta (ABC Live): A 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred near Pakistani border with Afghanistan early Wednesday, killing at least 170 people.

According to the US Geological Survey latest earthquake hit Pakistani city of Quetta at 4:09 am local time.

The most of deaths reported from in the hilly town of Ziarat in gas-rich Baluchistan province.

Two tremors, occurred  at about 0409 and then 0510 with three after shocks of low intensity that left  stunned survivors spent the rest of the night in the open in worst-hit area, Ziarat, about 50km north of Quetta.

The unclear reports suggest that more than 500 people had died with about 15000 with injuries become homeless by this quake.

A panic has spread in city which has witnessed history worse quake in 1935 which had killed 40,000 people in Quetta during British-ruled India.
